i-REXFO Final Conference - INCREASE IN REDUCTION AND RECOVERY OF EXPIRED FOOD

AN INNOVATIVE SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS MODEL

The final conference of the i-REXFO project took place on February 22nd.

i-REXFO proposes an innovative sustainable business model in the circular economy to reduce the overall environmental and social impact on the life cycle of food chains amount of food. i-REXFO promotes the production of renewable bioenergy from food waste while enhancing the donation of excess food to charities and raising awareness on how to avoid food waste.

i-REXFO is replicable in different scenarios across the EU thanks to a specifically tailored open source and user friendly software tool, to design the business model and evaluate the economic and environmental benefits. Also a set of normative guidelines applicable to different EU member states is provided.

This conference discussed financing measures to reduce food waste through waste-to-energy valorization. Recommendations on food waste produced by the food industry, farms, large-scale distribution, the catering industry (hotels, restaurants, bars, HORECA), and consumers.

The final online conference, organized by the partner Ragn-Sell, saw the participation of international stakeholders and Live demonstrations from the project partners.
